There's No Place Like Home.....


Ever since July 2000 we have been working hard to reunite lost dogs and cats with their owners with the help of our fantastic Lost Dogs Line (0901 477 8477, calls charged at 60p per minute) and the service has gone from strength to strength. Over the course of 2002 we took almost 7,000 lost reports and managed to reunite a very impressive 33% of lost animals before they even came in to the Home.

This last part is very important as dogs and cats can often find the whole 'process' of being lost very traumatic. At the same time, a distraught owner is often desperately searching police stations, parks and streets in their local area while we at Battersea are trying to find out whether a dog has ID so we can notify its owner. This can be very frustrating for all concerned, but with the help of the Lost Dogs Line we have managed to cut down on the to-ing and fro-ing and get on with the task at hand - reuniting lost pets.

Two pieces of information are vital for any pet owner. Firstly, make sure that your dog or cat has identification at all times. This doesn't just mean a collar and tag either - these can come off and get lost if a pet is wandering for some time. Microchips are ideal. Check out our link for more information: Identify Your Pet

Secondly, remember that Battersea Dogs Home should be top of your list of calls to make if you do realise that your dog or cat is missing. The great news is that the line has just undergone a major revamp, with a new logo, poster campaign and handy little plastic 'credit cards' carrying the number to replace the old fridge magnets. It's also boasting a new name and is now officially the Lost Dogs and Cats Line.

At the moment the line operates within the London and M25 area with hopes to expand in the future. We're doing all that we can to help pet owners to reclaim their lost dogs and cats.
